Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championships 2025 Dates Announced

Stage is set for the new edition of the Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championships. The Asian Kabaddi Federation has revealed the dates for the Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championships 2025.

The federation has announced that the event will take place in Tehran, Iran from the 4th of March to the 9th of March this year.

This will be the second time the Iranian capital would host the tournament having staged the competition in 2007. With this, Tehran will also become the first city to host the Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championships more than once.

The kabaddi tournament was first held in 2005, and despite two decades since its inauguration, only five editions have been held so far. Even the sixth edition faced a few hiccups.

Initially, the 2025 Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championships was scheduled to be held in Tehran from 20 to 25 February. But with India playing their Senior Kabaddi Nationals in the same week, the organisers pushed it by a fortnight.

The Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championships will witness 12 teams battling it out for the continental honour.

Defending champion India are favorites to win the title. They picked a 20-member probable squad from the recently concluded 71st Senior Women’s Kabaddi Nationals.

Ritu, Jyoti, Sakshi Sharma, and Bhavana Devi will headline the side. Sonali Vishnu Shingate makes a comeback into the Indian Team after five years. She was part of the 2018 Asian Games squad which won the Silver medal and the 2019 South Asian Games squad which won the Gold. She was the star of the National Games as she helped her team win the title in the Golden Raid of the match. Tejaswini Bai, Kavita Selvaraj, and Banani Saha have also been selected in the squad.

This tournament will serve as an audition for the second Women’s Kabaddi World Cup to be held in Bihar this year.
