Dream Debut: New Zealand’s Mohammad Abbas Scripts On First ODI

New Zealand’s Mohammad Abbas made a dream start to his international career. The Kiwi player etched his name in history books  smashing the fastest fifty on ODI debut.

The 21-year-old achieved a milestone in the New Zealand vs Pakistan first ODI match at McLean Park. He reached his fifty in just 24 balls breaking the previous record of 26 balls set by India’s Krunal Pandya against England in 2021.

Who is Mohammad Abbas?

Born in Lahore, Pakistan, Abbas in November 2003, hails from a cricketing family. His father, Azhar Abbas, played 45 first-class matches for Pakistan before moving to New Zealand, where he continued his cricketing career. Mohammad Abbas has since played for Auckland and Wellington.

Playing his 16th List A match, he has raced to 506 runs at 34-plus.

Abbas’s rise in cricket was aided by the unavailability of a few New Zealand all-rounders due to their IPL commitments. This resulted in his maiden call-up to the ODI squad.
