SEA Games 2025: Thailand Dominates In Kabaddi; List Of Winners, Medal Tally

Indonesia’s women’s kabaddi team claimed their first-ever SEA Games gold medal, edging Malaysia 23–22 in a dramatic final at Rajamangala University of Rattanakosin, Nakhon Pathom, on Thursday, December 18, 2025. The Indonesians held firm during Malaysia’s final attack to secure the narrow victory, despite protests from the Malaysian camp over the decisive refereeing call.

Both teams had identical records in the round-robin stage, with three wins and one loss each, but Indonesia topped the standings due to a superior score difference (39 to Malaysia’s 29). The gold marked Indonesia’s 80th medal overall at the Games and highlighted the resurgence of national kabaddi on the regional stage.

Indonesia’s men’s team also performed strongly, finishing third in the 3-star event to secure the bronze medal after recording three wins from five round-robin matches. Overall, Indonesia concluded the kabaddi competition with one gold, four silver, and one bronze medal across six events, including Standard Style and Super 5 categories.

Meanwhile, Malaysia made history in men’s kabaddi by winning their first SEA Games gold medal in the sport. The Malaysian men’s team defeated host nation Thailand 28–16 in the 3-star final at Rajamangala University of Technology in Bangkok. The team was coached by Gurmit Singh, a former national hockey player.

Malaysia’s women’s team also impressed, earning the silver medal after their narrow one-point loss to Indonesia in the final. Earlier in the Games, Malaysia had already collected four bronze medals across the men’s and women’s Standard Style and Super 5 events.

Together, these results underline the rapid growth and rising competitiveness of kabaddi in Southeast Asia, with both Indonesia and Malaysia establishing themselves as major contenders as the sport begins its SEA Games journey.
