U Mumba Launches First-Ever Hall of Fame; Anup Kumar, Fazel Atrachali Inducted

In a landmark moment for Indian kabaddi, U Mumba has become the first Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) franchise to launch its own Hall of Fame, honouring two of the sport’s most iconic figures. Anup Kumar and Fazel Atrachali became the first two inductees.
The announcement not only celebrates the duo’s incredible contributions to the franchise but also marks a new era in how kabaddi teams preserve and honour their legacy.
A Tribute to Legends
The inaugural inductees were no surprise- Anup Kumar, the calm and composed leader who led U Mumba to its first PKL title in Season 2, and Fazel Atrachali, the fearless Iranian defender whose leadership and dominance in defence redefined U Mumba’s playing style in later seasons.
“Anup Kumar and Fazel Atrachali are not just legends of the game, they represent the ethos of U Mumba,” said Suhail Chandhok, CEO of U Mumba. “Through our Hall of Fame, we aim to create a tradition where our history becomes the foundation of our future- and we can’t have two better stalwarts and captains than them to be inducted first.”
Anup Kumar: The Architect of U Mumba’s Golden Era
Affectionately known as “Captain Cool,” Anup Kumar was the face of U Mumba during the league’s formative years. He led from the front, guiding the team to three consecutive finals in Seasons 1, 2 and 3, and clinching the elusive title in Season 2.
Anup finished his U Mumba career with 546 points, making him one of the highest-scoring raiders in franchise history. He was the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of Season 1, topping charts across raid points, total points, Super 10s, Super Raids, and successful raids.
“I feel truly lucky to have led U Mumba,” said Anup. “Season 1 was heartbreaking for all of us, but that pain made the Season 2 championship even more special. The most beautiful part is that the starting 7 from back then are still in touch. Being inducted into the Hall of Fame brings all those memories back- I will always carry this team, those moments, and our fans in my heart.”
Fazel Atrachali: The Defensive General
Fazel Atrachali began his U Mumba journey in Season 2, but it was his return as captain in Season 6 that cemented his status as a franchise legend. That season, he tallied 83 points, finishing as the league’s third-best defender and U Mumba’s top tackler.
Known for his unyielding defence and inspirational leadership, Fazel played a key role in mentoring younger players and establishing U Mumba as one of the most disciplined defensive units in the league.
“Playing for U Mumba was one of the most special chapters of my PKL career,” said Fazel. “The faith of the management, the bond with my teammates, and the love of the fans gave me strength every time I stepped on the mat. To be remembered in the team’s very first Hall of Fame is a huge honour. I dedicate this to my teammates and coaches who stood by me.”

More Than Just a Ceremony
The creation of the Hall of Fame is more than a ceremonial gesture- it’s a powerful step in recognising the players who have helped shape the identity of their teams and the sport itself. By honouring Anup Kumar and Fazel Atrachali, U Mumba is building a legacy rooted in values like resilience, excellence, and fearlessness.
As the PKL continues to grow in popularity and reach, such initiatives help create a deeper connection between the sport’s history, its current players, and the fans who have stood by their teams since the beginning.
